FIC: Unearned Luck (Sanctuary, Helen/Will, Henry/Will, incidental Helen/Henry, NC-17)

So, [livejournal.com profile] shetiger wanted something non-explicit to doodle on, and I told her to write me some kissing. And she wrote One and One and One is Three, and it was awesome.

And then I had to tell her she was a very bad influence and I hated her, because the point of telling her to write me some kissing was not, in fact, to then go and write her the porn sequel myself, what the hell. I fail at command.

Ahem. Sanctuary, Helen/Will, Henry/Will, incidental Helen/Henry, NC-17, 1200 words and one facepalm.

Summary: Strange things happen on the threshold between "the night before" and "the day after."

Sequel to [livejournal.com profile] shetiger's One and One and One is Three.

I have no idea how to write this.

Hi LJ! I... have been so very MIA that I myself find it ridiculous. And I am very much out of practice with this. Um. So. Yeah. Hi?

(To be fair, I once accidentally went three months without talking to my father on the phone, not because we had any kind of rift, but because I kept forgetting to call, and he didn't want to bother me... Yeah. Only child, divorced parents, latchkey kid = getting stuck in one's own head a LOT.)

Things that happened to me in the almost two years since I updated, what the hell:

Bizarre personal crap edition )

Bizarre fannish crap edition )

Fannishly, I've been drifting around a bit, lurking--there was Sherlock Holmes (2009), BBC Sherlock, Haven, Lost Girl (semicanonical threesomes, woo), and... I am forgetting things, clearly. Oh! I totally called White Collar. I was a member of a slash comm before the show ever aired, before they changed Peter's last name from what was in the advance info. Haha, I got game. \o/

Recently, I have fallen into Sanctuary, and I dragged [livejournal.com profile] shetiger down with me, and we are wallowing in the shiny and the YAY and making nefarious plans of awesome. It's good to be in love again. *g*

And... yeah, that's all I got. I'm trying and failing to come up with something pithy and clever here, so make something up and pretend I said that.

step one: walk forward and kick him in the face. the computer never blocks that.

I am kageygirl over on Dreamwidth! (Though one would argue I am kageygirl wherever I go. Anyway.) I am totally stealing what [livejournal.com profile] drlense said--I have been entirely haphazard about adding people, so feel free to add me! Or, y'know, not. And I'm going to see what happens with my flist(s) before making any decisions about what goes where. Frankly, I just got done moving all my physical possessions; I'm not psychologically prepared for another move right this second.

So, there's that meme going around where you tell people things they should possibly know about you for more effective stalking. Perhaps, I think to myself, if I make one really wordy post, this will make up for having been so absent lately! (Hope springs eternal.)

FIC: A Gesture, Deliberate (Merlin/Arthur, G, Spoilers for 1x07 "The Gates of Avalon")

Um, oops. A week of especially special insomnia, and I let it slip to [livejournal.com profile] shetiger that I realized I had, well, forgotten to post something I wrote for her. She threatened to defriend me, of course.

sometimes the clothes do not make the man!

Offline life, you are a wacky, demanding beast. Just this past week, we've had our second car accident in two weeks (no damage, we're all fine here, now, thank you, how are you?) our first setting-off of the smoke detectors in the new house (they're all linked, and they tell you to evacuate in this funky electronic voice. it would have been hilarious had I not been so busy opening the windows to make sure The Boy did not suffocate us all), and my credit card number was possibly stolen in some processing center transaction the credit card company is being a little coy about (AWESOME).

Also, it's cold as fuck outside. No, actually, colder.

And yet I am happy. I think my Wheaties have been spiked. Or else it's my interweb happy places! )

In other news, while packing one of my bookshelves the other night, I kept cracking up. Well, first the James Patterson "Women's Murder Club" books (The Boy's) made me smile sadly and mourn the passing of the show, and then alllll the Arthurian and Robin Hoodsian books made me giggle (mine, I confess, but I'd had them for years. causality, it went the other way this time), and then I laughed out loud when I ran across the John Ringo books (belonging to both of us, but NOT the Paladin of Shadows OH JOHN RINGO NO books--these are the scifi, largely coauthored ones, all of which we bought before, y'know). But still, oh no, John Ringo!

(The nonfiction shelves had their moments, too, like when I realized I had just packed Alfred Thayer Mahan's "The Influence of Sea Power Upon History 1660-1783" next to Chris Packard's "Queer Cowboys." Highbrow, lowbrow, and every brow in between, that's us.)

And now I have tandoori chicken and sarsaparilla for lunch. \o/

What's making everyone else happy/content/less miserable right now? (Answers like "Cadbury Eggs are for sale again" are totally valid.)

FIC: Overlay (Merlin, NC-17, Merlin/Arthur)

[livejournal.com profile] shetiger gave me the prompt "spilled wine" (I mean, I asked her for a prompt, she didn't just randomly command me to write. on this occasion), and I got two ideas from it, one of which was not especially explicit.

This is the other one.

1022 words, NC-17, no spoilers. Huge thanks to [livejournal.com profile] airinshaw for Britpicking and betaing and (unintentionally) giving me the title (always steal from smart people!), and to [livejournal.com profile] shetiger and [livejournal.com profile] celli for cheerleading.

who do I have to kill to catch a break around here?

My current theory is that our new house is located on the site where the altar to some pagan god once stood, and that we have displeased him/her/it/them, and a sacrifice needs to be made to get us back into his/her/its/their good/not-displeased graces.

(Said god does not yet realize that there will be many, many beers sacrificed on-site.)

I thought blowing the motherboard on my desktop would be enough excitement for one week. I did not factor in mild food poisoning, and I'm ready for that to be gone now, thanks.

And since I was miserable, I wrote myself some very, very fluffy Merlin fluff. [livejournal.com profile] shetiger wrote Catalyse, and I followed it up with

hoist with my own petard!

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] shetiger was moping pondering aloud a problem she thought she was having with her writing, and so I whipped out a writing exercise for her: write me a paragraph about how someone felt about something, without using any direct emotional verbs (hated/loved/etc). Being a terrible person, I told her to write about how Merlin felt about Arthur's swordbelt.

Being a terrible yet somewhat fair person, I said I'd do the same, and she picked Arthur and Merlin's neckerchief.

I want to stress that this was not a contest. I want to stress equally strongly that she completely kicked my ass. *bg*

request for Bay Area advice!

On behalf of someone who must remain anonymous for the time being, I have a fanfic-related question for those who know the San Francisco area. In the words of anon:

"I need a good place for [character] to drive to at the end of the story. I want it to be kind of romantic, like a spot overlooking the water, but not automatically a "going to make out here" place. I'm thinking Telegraph Hill might work, but I'm open to better/more appropriate suggestions. Time would be evening."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

In return, I bring you a fannish edition of "things overheard in my apartment," all courtesy of The Boy.

* "This show is made by slashers. I'm not saying that in a bad way, it just--really is."

-The Boy, after I made him watch what were admittedly Merlin/Arthur vids, but he's never actually seen the show with, y'know, dialogue. It's funny 'cause it's true.

* "Okay, I think Hodges is writing Hodges/Grissom slash."

-The Boy, while watching last week's CSI, when a spoilery thing happened. )

Again, it's funny 'cause he's not wrong.

* "He's not that tall, he's only 5'8", but at 180 pounds, he's thick. It's amazing he can generate that much speed with those hips."

-The Boy, quoting something off the TV to me. I think that one's funnier if I don't specify the context. *g*

"... and a further litany of disturbances I have no wish burdensomely to elucidate."

That's from the preface of a book* I'm reading, where the author is saying that the publisher was awesome about the book being late ("bore with exceeding kindness delays in producing the manuscript"), and then rattles off a number of reasons why, and then ended the sentence with that. I think that's a terribly well-mannered way of saying, "dude, my shit was HOSED." And is in the running for my new LJ title.

This is all [livejournal.com profile] celli's fault, by way of me not ever being able to take the easy way out: she said, "write me them kissing!" and I said, "okay!" and then, me being me, there had to be context.

"No movie about gymnastics not named GYMKATA can be awesome."

(Which is a foul and vicious lie.)

I just watched Stick It with The Boy, and he made the above claim before we watched it, but I am firmly convinced otherwise.

They don't call it gym-nice-tics. )

In other news, Merlin has still eaten my brain, kink memes are really, really dangerous animals (no, REALLY), and I seem to have gotten my ability to write smut back. All I had to do, apparently, was trade in my moral compass, and really, what good did that bastard ever do me anyway, I ask you.

In less awesome news, my communication-avoidance problem is currently so bad that I have trouble opening emails that I WROTE TO MYSELF, from work, containing nothing but links to things I wanted to look up at home. I am having trouble TALKING TO ME. That right there is expert-level wrongness. (I'm trying to fix that, but if it takes a while for me to respond to comments, wow, is that ever not y'all, but me.)
