A small victory is still a win!
And several of them are generating a nice, low-level happy for me.
1) I did not post to lj while drunk last night. Go me! Though I might have been more amusing that way...
2) Our team did not win at Pub Trivia last night, but we did pretty damn well, and pound for pound, our four-person team kicked the ass of the twelve-plus-person team at the table next to us. Among other things, I successfully recognized a photograph of G. Gordon Liddy, despite having no context and having just been born around the time Watergate broke. (yes, I know,
wickdzoot, I'm a tiny, tiny baby.) Booze, free pizza, and the chance to test our wide-ranging and completely unsystematic knowledge bases in public made The Boy and I happy, happy people. And led to 1), above.
(did you know there was a quote from Leviticus on the Liberty Bell? we do, now.)
3) I learned the hard way that there are 199 steps from the bottom of the Porter Square T station to street level. I did not die in the process, though questions about my sanity are still being asked. Yes, there are escalators. Yes, they were working. Yes, I was carrying my backpack, complete with hefty laptop and cables and all. Yes, sometimes I do really stupid shit for no good reason. I think it was a preemptive attempt to offset any potential feeling of being all smart that the trivia thing might have caused.
4) Made it through the week without getting fired. OK, that's kind of a mixed blessing, really, but I'll take it. Huge party this afternoon, with free booze, and lots of people who no longer have to worry about giving the impression that they like one another. Confidence is high that it will be incendiary. And even if there ends up being no such floor show--three-hour party on company time. *g*
5) Last but probably more interesting than any of the above, I successfully manhandled my fanfic ADHD under control and finished something! Am eagerly awaiting its shredding by my loving beta babe. (pokes
maching_monkey to check her gmail.)
All this despite having gotten five hours or less sleep every night this week. Which potentially means that I in fact had the psychotic break and just didn't notice it, but since I've yet to see the mutant alien rats coming at me with chainsaws or anything, I'm just going to assume I'm OK.
ETA: Oh, and today is Steven Culp's birthday! Apropos of nothing, but I was reminded. Mmmmm, Webb/Hayes/Rex Van De Camp. Maybe I should watch Thirteen Days again tonight.

--Lev. XXV:X.
Had we known the quote, of course, that would have been cake. But the question was, "What national treasure has the quote from Leviticus 25:10 inscribed on it?" And we just looked at one another kind of dumbly.
I consider this a prime achievement week for you....
Enjoy the party and pray for mayhem. It's always fun to watch people burn bridges.
Oh, and is this a good time to mention that I have that stupid Steven Culp movie HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER on tape, should any of your friend's want it. I taped it for you, but you already have it. On DVD.
As for your sanity, I rest my case.

Re: I consider this a prime achievement week for you....
Party was very disappointing. The drinks were weak, and I got nothin'. No screaming fights, no drunken harangues, nothin'. Just people huggin' and cryin' and me trying to stay out of the way of any of that.
We did manage to amuse the catering staff by exclaiming, "meat on a stick!" and partaking with joy whenever they passed us.

Where do you do trivia? I like pub trivia but never go because...well, I'm lame. I like dancing and live walking distance from Man Ray, but I never get my butt out there either...

Yeah, I rarely do the out & about thing, myself, though I'm actually trying to convince some friends to go to Man Ray, to sort of celebrate the upcoming Fetish Fair Fleamarket. It's such an ordeal, sometimes, having to bring the peer pressure to bear. I'm much more "willing follower" than "group leader." *g*

That is all.

I have this strange, poked feeling...
Congrats on doing so well against a team twice your size! And go you for the stairs! I'm glad your survived climbing them.
I need some more new icons. Just sayin'. (No reason, except that I was making icons today, and I've decided I need another one of McKay looking realy happy. You know how hard it is to find good pics of McKay looking really happy?)
