This is actually an historic occasion for another reason--remember, remember the fifth of November is another important anniversary:

53 years ago today, Dr. Emmett Brown invented the flux capacitor, the device which makes time travel possible! \o/

Anyway. I come seeking advice, dear Livejournal, on some completely and totally hypothetical stop looking at me issues, and since I respect and crave appreciate your input, here's a handy poll:

[Poll #1292132]

See, I kind of feel like changing my spelling to look like I'm a European author is wrong and poser-y, but I don't want it to be a distraction, y'know? *frets*

And the second question completely and totally did not come up this very morning for me or anything and is not giving me mental distress or anything so just stop looking at me like that.

Oh, small fandoms with as yet a handful of episodes, you are difficult on the early adopters.

I'm a UK speller (from New Zealand) in a US fandom (Riptide) and a UK one (Richard Jury) in a small way; and I fic in US english for Riptide and UK for Richard Jury.

My betas know they have to hunt me for US English in Riptide. However, there are people in our fandom who prefer to use their UK spelling in Riptide too. I guess it's all down to author's choice :)

For me, an American fandom implies US terminology and spelling, and a UK one likewise - I think of it like canon - but the spelling chosen certainly doesn't affect my enjoyment of a well-written fic. It's just something I like to do myself.

I just wanted to say...what she said! I'd enjoy the fic either way, but if you chose to check the spelling, you'd get bonus brownie points from me! But still, if the fic's good, the fic's good, no matter the spelling. Know what I mean?

I like to see UK things written in UK English, it makes me happy and it feels kind of quaint compared to the rest of the fanfic on the net.

Hee! No, really, that's awesome. *g* (I'm so going to have my vocab checked, 'cause, yeah, no one needs undergarment confusion...)
