Can't help giggling. When I was a child, every Sunday a marching band would play in a pavillion in the park, and as it was quiet on Sunday's, we had the misfortune of hearing them for hours. Only recently I found - thanks to New British Cinema - that there is tuba/trumpet/marching band music that actually sounds good. I fear you were not treated to that though.
