Dude. Stop with the hitting.

Metageeky things that are tempting me:
The MIT Communications Forum is holding a free event: Is Popular Culture Good For You?
Speaking will be Steven Johnson, author of Everything Bad is Good For You.
Thursday, October 6, 2005
5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Bartos Theater (MIT Media Lab)
(an audiocast will be available after the event, 'cause MIT's cool like that. I mean, they're the ones who brought OpenCourseWare to the Web.)
And I'm sure Harry Potter aficionados already know this, but The Witching Hour symposium also starts Thursday evening, running through Monday, Oct. 10. I'm so very waiting until the last minute to decide whether I'm going, but Salem's right there, so I haven't made travel plans or anything. And while I've read the books and some fanfic here and there, I'm not in the fandom, as such, nor am I really more than an armchair academic, so...
But I'm particularly tempted by Henry Jenkins's keynote lunch address on Saturday, 'cause he's a wicked good speaker. *g* (my occasional falling asleep in class had nothing to do with him and everything to do with--everything else.) Anyone else going? I'm totally willing to be a lone orphan fan, as I've been there and done that before, but it's much more fun to play with others.
