For me, an American fandom implies US terminology and spelling, and a UK one likewise - I think of it like canon - but the spelling chosen certainly doesn't affect my enjoyment of a well-written fic.
I just wanted to say...what she said! I'd enjoy the fic either way, but if you chose to check the spelling, you'd get bonus brownie points from me! But still, if the fic's good, the fic's good, no matter the spelling. Know what I mean?
